Le ciel est rendu au lavis, mais, répondant à la scène presque monochromatique, Lyons a permis à la toile apprêtée de représenter la neige dans les champs, ne peignant que les plantes et les arbres projetant à travers la couverture de neige.
"Here in Transylvania the seasons and the weather present constant changes of mood and colour register in the landscape. In the winter, once the cornfields have been cut and the leaves fallen from the trees, the scene opens up, and when the snow comes, the near monochrome of the view over the fields offers a stillness and calm that is special to this season."
The sky is rendered in wash, but, responding to the almost monochromatic scene, Lyons has allowed the primed canvas to represent the snow in the fields, painting only the plants and trees projecting through.
